BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT: LOSS OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR                              
It is with great sadness that the Board of Gold Fields advises about the death  
of Mr John Gavin Hopwood. Mr Hopwood was appointed to the Gold Fields Board as  
an independent Non-Executive Director of the Company on 15 February 2006; he    
also served as the Chairman of the Audit Committee and a member of the          
Remuneration Committee until his death. He passed away on Thursday, 18 March    
2010 after a long illness.                                                      
We wish to express our appreciation for his commitment and invaluable           
contributions to the Company over the years.                                    
Our deepest condolences are extended to the Hopwood family and friends.
